Getting the size right first time
Our apparel is unisex and printed to order, so it's worth two minutes with a tape measure. Measure a garment you already like, compare it to the tables below, and pick the closest match.
These tables are standard unisex sizing, not measurements taken from our own stock, so treat them as a starting point and measure a top you already own before ordering.
How to measure
The most reliable method isn't measuring yourself — it's measuring a top you already own and wear happily. Lay it flat on a table, smooth out the wrinkles, and take two numbers.
Measure straight across the garment from armpit seam to armpit seam, with the front flat. That is a flat measurement of half the chest, which is how the tables below are written.
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.
Find the row closest to your two numbers. If you land between sizes, size up — cotton jersey shrinks slightly in a warm wash, and a roomier tee is easier to live with than a tight one.
If you measure your own chest instead, that is a full circumference — halve it, then add 5–10 cm (2–4 in) for the ease a top needs to hang properly.
Unisex t-shirt
A regular unisex cut with a straight body. Sizes S to 3XL.
| Size | Chest width (cm) | Chest width (in) | Body length (cm) | Body length (in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 46 | 18 | 71 | 28 |
| M | 51 | 20 | 74 | 29 |
| L | 56 | 22 | 76 | 30 |
| XL | 61 | 24 | 79 | 31 |
| 2XL | 66 | 26 | 81 | 32 |
| 3XL | 71 | 28 | 84 | 33 |
Chest width is measured flat from armpit to armpit — roughly half the way round. Inches are rounded to the nearest whole inch, so they will not convert exactly from the centimetre column.
Unisex hoodie & sweatshirt
Hoodies and crew-neck sweatshirts share the same body block, so one table covers both. They run roomier than the t-shirt at the chest and a little shorter in the body.
| Size | Chest width (cm) | Chest width (in) | Body length (cm) | Body length (in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 51 | 20 | 69 | 27 |
| M | 56 | 22 | 71 | 28 |
| L | 61 | 24 | 74 | 29 |
| XL | 66 | 26 | 76 | 30 |
| 2XL | 71 | 28 | 79 | 31 |
| 3XL | 76 | 30 | 81 | 32 |
Hoodies are cut for a layer underneath. If you already own a hoodie that fits over a jumper, measure that one rather than a t-shirt.
Choosing a fit
Close fit: pick the size whose chest width matches your favourite top almost exactly.
Relaxed fit: go one size up. On a hoodie that is about 5 cm (2 in) more across the chest and 2–3 cm more length.
Between two sizes: size up. Printed cotton can shrink a little on its first warm wash, and the care page explains how to avoid most of that.
These are unisex cuts, so they run straight through the body rather than shaped at the waist. If you usually wear a fitted women's cut, expect a looser shape at the same nominal size.
Carry-on bag sizes
Cabin-bag limits are set by each airline, not by one rule, and they change. The table shows typical limits you will meet — use it to narrow things down, then always check your airline's current allowance for your fare before you fly.
| Bag | Typical limit (cm) | Typical limit (in) | Where you will see it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cabin bag | 55 × 40 × 20 | 21.7 × 15.7 × 7.9 | A common limit on many European and international airlines |
| Cabin bag | 56 × 45 × 25 | 22 × 18 × 10 | IATA's recommended cabin-bag size, used by some airlines |
| Carry-on | 56 × 36 × 23 | 22 × 14 × 9 | Typical on major US airlines |
| Personal item (under the seat) | 40 × 30 × 20 | 15.7 × 11.8 × 7.9 | Typical free under-seat bag on budget European airlines; some allow less, such as 40 × 25 × 20 |
Many airlines also set a weight limit for cabin bags, and the fare you buy can change both the size and the weight allowed. Nothing on this page guarantees a bag will be accepted on a particular flight.
Each bag's own measurements are on its product page, under Specifications, wherever the listing states them. Compare those with your airline's limit, and remember that a soft bag packed full can grow a centimetre or two in depth.
Before you order
Printed apparel is made to order, and custom prints are final sale. Each item is printed for you after you order — add 2–4 days before dispatch, and expect apparel and gear on the same order to ship separately. Because a printed garment cannot be resold, we cannot take it back for a size change, which is exactly why this page exists.
Our travel gear follows the ordinary policy: 30 days to return anything unused in its original packaging, and if it is faulty or wrong, we cover the cost.
If a printed item arrives with a manufacturing fault — a bad seam, a misplaced print — that is on us. Email a photo and your order number and we will sort it. The warranty page sets out what is covered.
Still unsure between two sizes? Send us the two measurements from your own top at hello@bonvoyage-shops.com and we will tell you which row we would pick. A person answers, usually within one working day.
